The northwest section of the US map displayed as background within the website and as part of header, was created by Tom Patterson.

The northwest section of the 1806 Lewis & Clark map on the site entry page is housed in its entirety at the Boston Athenæum. "Map of part of the continent of North America whereon is laid down the Missouri, Jeffersons, Lewis's, Clarks, and the Columbia, Rivers, from the Mississippi to the Pacific Ocean, as corrected by the celestial observations of Messr. Lewis & Clark during their tours of discovery in 1805."
